HOW CHIROPRACTIC HELPS NECK PAIN & BACK PAIN
Chiropractic works by specifically targeting the spine, joints and muscles which are under a great deal of stress, injury or simply not functioning correctly. The ‘Chiropractic adjustment’ is a procedure in which trained Chiropractors use their hands or a small instrument to apply a controlled force to a spinal joint or area.

The goal of the Chiropractic adjustment (sometimes known as spinal manipulation), is to correct structural alignment, restoring function to the joints and surrounding muscles, decreasing pain and improving the body’s ability to function.
COMMON CAUSES OF NECK PAIN & BACK PAIN

Injury and Accidents (Acute or Sudden Trauma)
  • Slips / Trips / Falls
  • Lifting / Carrying / Loading
  • Twisting or Sudden movement
  • Physical contact between people or objects
Picture
A sudden movement, impact or force can injure the joints and surrounding or supporting tissues in the neck or back. Inflammation occurs in the joints while the muscles react by tightening and contracting, creating muscle strain. Both result in pain and stiffness. Severe injuries can also damage to the intervertebral joints, discs, ligaments and nerve roots.

Chronic Overtime Issues
  • Degenerative Joint Disease (DJD) aka Osteoarthritis – A common joint disorder, causes progressive deterioration of cartilage. The body reacts by forming bone spurs that affect joint motion.
  • Spinal stenosis – Causes the small nerve passageways in the vertebrae to narrow, compressing and trapping nerve roots. Stenosis may cause shooting pain down the legs or arms as well as numbness or tingling as the nerves are unable to function normally.
  • Degenerative Disc Disease (DDD) – A reduction in the elasticity and height of intervertebral discs. Overtime, a disc may bulge or herniate, causing tingling, numbness, and pain that runs down into the arms or legs.

Daily Life
Poor posture, obesity and weak abdominal muscles often disrupt spinal balance, causing the neck or back to compensate. Stress and emotional tension can cause inflammation and muscles to tighten and contract, resulting in pain and stiffness. Postural stress can contribute to chronic neck pain and back pain with symptoms extending to elsewhere in the body, such as the arms or legs.
